Baseball might be the only thing we have in common with the Mistake By the Lake. Most people would not consider us polluted or a manufacturing hot bed just like most people would not consider them a cow-town. IMO, our peer cities are Indy, Columbus, Cincinnati, Omaha, OKC, etc. Not Cleveland.

Its true that you can compete with a modest budget in MLB. The A’s and Twins have produced clubs that can compete with the big boys, though they never actually win (F!@# Jeter and slow ass Giambi). The Rays have done some good things on what I assume is a much more humble payroll than the yanks. But let’s be honest, your management has to be near genius level every year to even have a shot if you are in a small market. The structure of baseball is f’d up and needs to be fixed. There should be a salary cap and the league needs to be brought in line with the NFL to increase parity and more competition. Have we and other perennial losers been mostly inept? Yes. But does anyone agree that it’s ridiculous that you have $40 million payrolls competing against $200 million payrolls or whatever they are now? You can do a lot with a little, except win in the playoffs – especially year after year.
