The Clint Robinson era has officially begun. The 27 year old lumberjack has been a message board favorite for a couple years now. If you don’t know who he is, then you must have a very fulfilling life and I’m very jealous. Clint is the token Calvin Pickering/Kila Ka’aihue mold. The guy who crushes it in AAA, inspires fans, and then ultimately disappoints when they get their chance in the majors.
Ok, I got a little ahead of myself on Clint, but I’m assuming the past will be repeated. Clint OPS’d 1.035 in AA in 2010 and .935 in AAA last year. He has plus power and he can take a walk. He is also big, slow, and uses a frying pan for a glove. His era will likely last 12 days and end when we return from our interleague road trip. He will be used as a pinch hitter in NL road games and may get a courtesy start at home against the Cardinals on a Sunday game. It’s a good roster move to get a left handed bat with pop on the bench for the sub heavy NL slate.
I’m always happy for a guy when he gets his first promotion. A nice reward for a guy who has done nothing but hit for his 6 years in the minors. I’m sure it’s tough being down on the farm for so long when you play at a decent level. I assume guys get nervous they’ll be the next Crash Davis. Shacking up with some crazy redhead townie that becomes your swing doctor… I’m sure Clint can relate. Let’s get serious, with Butler and Hosmer, there isn’t room for this guy. Maybe he can mash a few bombs in his stint and generate some trade interest from Billy Beane or some saber nerd GM who might be gay for his BB/K rate. He could get a shot as a DH for OAK or TB. Good luck Clint.
In other news, Salvador Perez (I refuse to call him Salvy like Bob Dutton and Ned Yost) made his rehab debut last night and went 2-4 with a double. Wil Myers hit his 21st HR of the season. In his combined season between AA and AAA he is now slashing .335/.398/.726. Yes, a 1.125 OPS. Don’t worry though, Soren Petro still wants us to trade him. Oh, and Odorizzi struck out 10 batters in 6.2 innings. He has now had 5 outings now in AAA. Three were awesome, one was good, one was ok. Pretty good night on the farm. Royals minor leaguers giving us hope for the future and making me forget that our current rotation is Hochevar, Mazzaro, Chen, Adcock, Smith? You better believe it.
Exit Question: Who would rather be stranded on a desert island with, Wil Myers or Jake Odorizzi?

I like what you’re thinking here – let’s hope he crushes while given the opportunity so we could trade for an arm. At this point I don’t understand the rationale for keeping Wil Meyers in AAA. He is clearly too talented for AAA ball – his numbers are sick!!
I wonder what we could get for Dyson right now?
I’d want to see a sword fight before I decide between the two!
robinson won’t get the ABs to showcase anything.
Myers won’t be brought up until after Super 2 date regardless of his numbers.
A Dyson trade might net us a couple new pitching screens for BP.
Love the write up DP. Short, concise and highly informational. Perfect combo.
My answer is neither to the stranded island question. I’d like to have Hosmer w/ me as he’s already on an island in RF. Might as well put Butler out there and leave Hos at first for the better infield defense. That 4th inning on Saturday was the worst defensive display I’ve seen in quite sometime.
Can’t wait for Jake to get here. Odor has no choice but to start immediately in our “rotation”. We should nickname our so called rotation the “carousel” as we need more spots than a rotation can supply.
Wil is going to be interesting. We can’t DH him (Butler) and he can’t play in the outfield so long as Frenchy is around. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again……Frenchster needs to go. Get Cain back in CF, put Myers in RF and let the youngun’s play.
We aren’t a bad team and so long as we can get out of this current slide and make it through June with a respectable record we would still have a decent chance to make something happen. This division is by far the weakest in baseball and teams can go from last to first in as little as a month.
Keep the faith! Go Royals! Go Robinson! We need to package you with Frenchy
Before deciding who I want to be on a island with, I want a Bill Maplewood locker room update. After reading Bill’s piece I don’t want to be stuck on an island with a dude who has a girthier unit then me…knowing my luck their supersizes probably pummel my tinytot
Super 2 can’t get here fast enough. My genitals throbbing for those two.
Stranded island? I gotta go with Myers. Middle-aged, portly white men with hypertension love the long ball.
holy shit that current rotation is appalling. I knew it was awful, but when you see it on paper it makes you cringe.
Give it a couple more weeks and when the Super 2 date passes, we will see Odorizzi and Myers. Odo will be out of necessity and Myers will be a luxury. Problem will be finding a spot for him to play, especially with the potential return of LoCain. Francouer is fucking everything up.
Hopefully we can deal Broxton to a contender for a decent pitching prospect and somehow get Dayton to release his grip on Frenchy’s joint to clear up some room for our youngster’s to play everyday.
oh yeah, clint robinson. hope you can make the most of the ten ABs you’ll get while up.
So I can expect to see Clint in a few years coaching my kids little league team…Go get em Clint!
